Mountain lion indiana6/1/2023 I keep a Glock and knife accessible and on me, even when wearing heavy winter clothes. I look up as much as I look down and I tend to stop and look into dense areas before I travel into them. I don't walk along blind ambush points, like dense rows of pines along a roadside or clearing. So the dog in general tends to scare off or detect most critters and in turn I have her back and she is trained to stay close. I carry for many reasons but also because an unleashed dog is more likely to be attacked by wolves. So I keep a dog with me when I am outside. Even one of our cats is excellent at spotting visitors on the property and I can tell by her body language what she is looking at. I have found animals to be the best layer of security. At some point they lost the tracks.then it dawned on them that the cat had gone up into the trees above them. Now, let me add we live in some dense forest, as my 80 year old Mom said during her visit it was the thickest forest she has ever seen. The best story I heard so far was from a guy my age who in his youth with a few friends set out to kill one. When we moved up here we were advised that one had been hanging around on the property the past few years.
